Welcome to 9
I've always been fascinated with learning to understand why people act or think a certain way. I'm sure it started back in high school but it was once I got to college that I really dived into it- Personality Tests.
I loved having conversations with those that were polar opposite from my type, those that used the logical thinking side of their brain over their creative side. Those that saw just black and white over shades.
It was fun seeing how others thought about life and the way the world operated. It allowed me to see a bit more of the world too.
Then I found the Enneagram.
I heard about the Enneagram when I went on the World Race. A few of my teammates were a bit obsessed with it and were always trying to guess everyone's number. Then, a few years later my teammate for Thirst Project loved the Enneagram too and kept trying to guess where I was on the scale.
To be entirely honest, I was a little frightened by the Enneagram. When I would read all the descriptions of the numbers, none of them seemed to be all that positive. They all focused on the way that a person operates, thinks and feels. It seemed to validate why someone would react a certain way and it all boiled down to that was just how they were made.
I finally bit the bullet and took the test, I was just too curious to not know my type.
Turns out, I'm a 9, the Peacemaker, The Easygoing, The Self-Effacing Type, The Receptive, The Reassuring, The Agreeable, The Complacent.
I immediately thought, "There's no way I'm a 9. This is so boring! How could I actually be a 9? That doesn't even make sense...." Until I actually started to look into what a 9 is like and I realized, I'm a 9, I'm totally a 9.
I hate confrontation. I can see all sides of an argument. I'm almost always going to just go with the flow (seriously asking me where I want to eat is one of the hardest decisions EVER!). I have a hard time making decisions because I can see how each possible option would be good or bad. When you ask me what I love, I get a deer-in-the-headlights face because I'm so used to just going with the flow that it's hard for me to know what it is that actually sets my soul ablaze.
Welcome to the life of a 9.
I've been slowly diving into this whole Enneagram world and learning more and more about what it's like to be a 9 and be a healthy 9. Yup did you know that we all have unhealthy tendencies based on our personalities? I had no idea that why I do certain things, like procrastinate and do the random little tasks first instead of the larger more important ones, is truly an aspect of my personality. Or like how the game Would You Rather, makes my shoulders so tight and stressed that I just want to leave the room.
It's all based on my personality.
Something that I really love about the Enneagram is that it's not just a test that was created in the last ten years and it tells you characters in pop culture that are also your type. Nope, this is a test can actually be traced back all the way to Greecain times! How cool is that?! And (I know, can it really get any cooler than this?) the Enneagram can be directly correlated to Biblical aspects and how you relate to the Lord and your relationship with Him.I know, blowing your mind right?
That's probably one of the reasons why I keep researching the Enneagram. As I learn more about 9's and how we operate, I'm able to take ownership of the way I operate and learn more about my Heavenly Father. It's intoxicating to learn more about yourself and grow. It's also extremely helpful when working with others. Yup, the Enneagram helps you understand how to work with others. That's probably why I will 100% ask you what your number is so I can know how to best communicate with you.
I would love to keep diving into my life of being a 9 with you if you'd like! I would also strongly encourage you to take the test for yourself and see where you land on the scale. It's been one of the best self-discovering journeys I've been on and I'm just getting started. Click here to take a free version of the test that is a really great guide to learning your number.
Welcome to the Enneagram friends!
